about

This song is lifted straight from life. A few years ago my mom was badly injured in a head on collision. She broke all her ribs where the seatbelt was and tore a bunch of muscles. Just like in the song, she got out of the wreckage and laid by the road and thought she was dying. She described this moment to me. A lady came, asked her name and did this simple prayer where she asked God to make sure she wouldn't die and that she would heal and be ok. My mom has a crippling case of social anxiety and is completely atheist. I honestly think this was the first time she experienced the closeness and warmth of a stranger and it gave her an incredilbe sense of emotional comfort, on par with the physical discomfort she was in. It took her two years to heal and she never saw the lady again.

lyrics

After the car collision
Got out and laid by the road
Thought that your time had come
Laying on your broken bones

Then from somewhere a lady came
Who thought she knew what to say
She said tell me what’s your name
I’ll hold your hand and pray

Chorus:
Behind the prayer was care and for the first time
Part of you wasn’t deaf
In her eyes the glass amongst the grass shined
Like the peaceful stars of death

The sky was blurry and blue
The road was hot like a pan
Broken body wouldn’t do
Like before when you ran

Away from the scary creatures...
Seeking heart to hearts
But somehow religious whispers could reassure
The wildness in your heart

But you never believed in god
Never did never will
Close to death you first saw
A hole that can’t be filled

Chorus:
Behind the prayer was care and for the first time...
Part of you wasn’t deaf
In her eyes the glass amongst the grass shined...
Like The peaceful stars of death

But god’s voice you never heard...
But your hand felt hers
