about

I never fully grasped the extent of the legacy left by this family tragedy until I became a father. My would-be uncle was sixteen months old when he choked to death laughing while eating pistachios. The whole immediate family was a witness and their sadness and trauma flows down the generations.

lyrics

You were young, grandma’s son
The tree grows without you
My mom was young and felt so strong...
Despair’s hold without you

That wicked time is gone
But the lasting impression...
You left, never expired
It made home in her soul

Yeah she was just, a young girl
Still cries for her little brother...
Who swallowed wrong, while laughing
Looking at them not knowing, What to do...
Mother, father, brother, sister
At loss...

Nobody back then could...
Find a way to save you
They all learned, to move on
But are a little less strong

When I asked around...
About you they looked so sad
Said you were, The joy they had
And they can still hear your laugh

Your nephew’s hand is all grown
Yours is forever young
16 month is just old...
Enough to fill in a song
